While we were in Plettenberg Bay our lovely host decided it would be a great idea to take us on a day-trip to Knysna’s Garden of Eden Forest for a relaxed walk. I love forests and often visit Cape Town’s leafy haunts so was enthusiastic. I had no idea how beautiful this forest was going to be.

You have to know where the entrance is not to miss it as you drive along the N2 road and when we arrived I immediately held my breath. The treetop canopy overhead dappled in the sun, and the air was peaceful and quiet.

We paid our entry (I think it was only R10), which goes towards the preservation of the forest. It felt like we were walking into another world; the colours were vibrant and natural, the lush vegetation covered every surface and the serene ambience made us instantly relax.

Knysna annual beach festival

Last year Knysna hosted the Sports Development Beach Soccer Tournament in December. Then event was so successful it will be hosting its second annual Edge of Africa Beach Festival this year.

Locals and visitors are invited to come spend the day on the beach and enjoy the day’s activities. The one-day Summer Sports Festival will be held at Buffalo Bay and will include some beach soccer, rugby, cricket, volleyball and water sports. But don’t worry, you don’t have to get too active if you don’t want to, there will be some craft stalls to browse through, kid’s activities for the little ones and competitions for the whole family.

There will also be some live entertainment and food and drinks stalls to keep the spectators entertained and well-fed. The main focus of the occasion, which is being organised in association with Knysna Tourism and the Knysna Municipality, is to showcase sports development in the area. The beach festival is a community sports development initiative and aims to assist and promote sport in underprivileged communities and areas.
